Melmoth Iron Ore Project, KwaZulu Natal (South Africa)

Sungu Sungu (Pty) Limited, a subsidiary of Sungu Sungu Group has partnered with Jindal Steel and Power for the Melmoth Iron ore project. It is Banded Iron Formation (BIF) with an estimated 1 billion tons of resource based on previous drilling information and currently busy with exploration and drilling to better quantify and qualify the resource base.

Melmoth area is at 31⁰ 25’ 00” E, 28⁰ 40’ 00” S

Location and infrastructure

-          70km to the west of Richards Bay bulk handling port

-          Single gauge rail line linking site to Richards bay

-          Power locally available

-          Large dam located on site in the southern part

-          Established road network into the project site for ease of access

-          And there is sufficient basic infrastructure in the area including not only limited to road access, water, electricity and railway infrastructure.

 

Estimated resources and type of mineralisation

-          The ore is a magnetite bearing Banded Iron Formation (BIF)

-          The BIF can be traced for over 20km in strike

-          Intersection over 100m thick have been recorded in boreholes

-          Large areas remain untested by drilling

-          30 boreholes have been drilled in the 1980s in the area
